LIGHTING SYSTEM > Auto Headlight Beam Leveler System

PROCEDURE

When the parts related to the auto headlight beam leveler system have been removed, installed or replaced, be sure to perform initialize or reinitialize operation according to the following procedure.

NOTE:

Before performing the initialize or reinitialize operation, be sure of the following:

Vehicle is parked on level ground.

The inflation pressure of tires is correct.

Unload any cargo from the vehicle.

Vehicle’s fuel tank is fully filled.

Refer to the following chart to determine whether to initialize or reinitialize.

Initialize

When the headlight beam leveling ECM has been replaced with a new part.

Reinitialize

When the headlight beam leveling ECM has been replaced with a used part from a different vehicle.

When suspension related parts have been removed/installed or replaced.

(Crossmember, transverse link, lateral link and strut)

When the vehicle height sensor has been replaced, removed and installed.

1. INITIALIZE

1. Confirm that the indicator on the meter is blinking twice at a time repeatedly.

2. Bounce the vehicle several times to normalize the suspension.

3. Make certain that someone is seated in the driver’s seat.

4. Turn the ignition to ON, and within 20 seconds, repeat OFF ⇒ ON of headlight switch three times or more.

5. Confirm that the indicator on the meter blinks 3 times and turns off, and check that the initialize operation has been completed. (At this time, the headlight aiming is lowered, and then returns to the original position.)

6. Adjust the headlight beam level.

2. REINITIALIZE

1. Bounce the vehicle several times to normalize the suspension.

2. Make certain that someone is seated in the driver’s seat.

8. Adjust the headlight beam level.

CAUTION:

When the indicator does not blink 3 times or the headlight aiming does not operate, there may be an open harness or a failed connection between the front or rear vehicle height sensor and the headlight assembly. After checking and completing repairs accordingly, perform the initialization or reinitialization again.
