ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS)(H4DOTC DIESEL) > Diagnostic Procedure with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
DTC DETECTING CONDITION:
Immediately at fault recognition
CAUTION:
After servicing or replacing faulty parts, perform Clear Memory Mode
and Inspection Mode
.
1.CHECK OVER-REV EXPERIENCE COUNT.
Read the data of “Accumulated count of over-rev instance (very high RPM)” using Subaru Select Monitor.
NOTE:
For detailed operation procedures, refer to “READ CURRENT DATA FOR ENGINE”.

Is the count one or more?
|
Explain to the user that the engine speed has exceeded 5,900 rpm. 
|

2.CHECK OVER-REV EXPERIENCE COUNT.
Read the data of “Accumulated count of over-rev instance (high RPM)” using Subaru Select Monitor.
NOTE:
For detailed operation procedures, refer to “READ CURRENT DATA FOR ENGINE”.

Is the count one or more?
|
Advise the user against over-revving the engine, and then continue the current diagnosis. 
|
|
3.CHECK ENGINE NOISE.
Start the engine.
|
Are there any slapping sounds from the engine internal?
|
Replace the short engine. 
|
Explain to the customer about the following*:
• Engine may have been damaged by over-rev.
• Replacement of the short engine may be required when slapping sound occurs from the engine internal.

4.CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTC ON DISPLAY.
|
Is any other DTC displayed?
|
Check the appropriate DTC using the “List of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)”. 
After DTC check is completed, continue the current diagnosis.

5.CHECK FOR MALFUNCTION OCCURRENCE.
|
Does malfunction occur on the vehicle?
|
Inspect corresponding malfunction using “General Diagnostic Table”. 
|
|
*: Recommend the customer to replace the short engine as a preventive measure against engine malfunction. If not replacing the short engine, recommend the customer to make sure there is no change in the following items when driving.
• Engine startability
• Engine sound
• Engine vibration
• Acceleration performance
