MECHANICAL(H4DOTC DIESEL) > Cylinder Head

ASSEMBLY

1. Before installing a new valve guide, make sure that no scratches or damage exists on the inner surfaces of the valve guide holes of the cylinder head.

2. Apply engine oil to the tip of the new valve guide.

3. Place the rocker cover mating surface facing up, and set the valve guide in the guide hole.

CAUTION:

Place a waste cloth, etc. to avoid scratching the mating surface of the cylinder block.

4. Using the ST, attach the valve guide.

5. Check the amount of protrusion of the valve guide from the head.

Protrusion of the valve guide from the head:

9.1 — 9.5 mm (0.3583 — 0.3740 in)

6. Ream the inside of valve guide using ST.

(1) Insert the reamer in the valve guide, and turn slowly clockwise while pushing lightly.

(2) Bring the reamer back while rotating it clockwise slowly.

NOTE:

Apply engine oil to the ST when reaming.

If this scratches the inner surface of valve guides, lightly sand the tip of the ST with an oil stone.

If the inner surface of the valve guide becomes lustrous and the ST does not grind, use a new ST or repair the ST.

(3) After reaming, clean the valve guide to remove grinding debris.

(4) After replacing the valve guide, recheck the contact condition between the valve and valve seat.

7. Attach the valve spring sheet.

8. Using the ST, install the stem seal.

NOTE:

Use a new stem seal.

9. Set the cylinder head on the hydraulic press.

CAUTION:

Place a waste cloth, etc. to avoid scratching the mating surface of the cylinder block.

10. Install the valve and valve spring.

(1) Coat the stem of each valve with engine oil and insert the valve into valve guide.

NOTE:

When inserting the valve, be careful not to damage the valve oil seal lip.

(2) Attach the valve spring sheet, valve spring, and valve spring retainer.

11. Using a hydraulic press and ST, compress the valve spring, and install the valve collet.
