1. Remove the manual transmission assembly from the vehicle. 
2. Remove the transfer case together with the extension case assembly.
3. Remove the transmission case.
4. Move the counter gear shaft until it reaches the transmission case, and remove the snap ring with appropriate tools.

5. Slide the washer to the rear of the high-low counter shaft, and remove the straight pin from the counter shaft.

6. Being careful not to drop the counter gear and two washers, remove the counter shaft from the transmission case.
NOTE:
• Be careful not to damage the O-ring.
• Be careful not to drop the front side straight pin.
• Be careful not to drop the two needle bearings and the collar in the counter gear.
