PERIODIC MAINTENANCE SERVICES > V-belt

INSPECTION

CAUTION:

Check and adjust the front side belt tension to the specified range. If the tension is out of the specified range, the following problems may occur.

If tension of the front side belt is too high, unexpected force applies to power steering pump, generator and crankshaft bearing portion and may result in noises caused by abnormal wear of bearing portions.

If tension of the front side belt is too low, slipping of the front side belt and crank pulley occurs and crank pulley becomes abnormally hot by friction heat. If the condition is repeated frequently, abnormal friction of front side belt occurs and it may cause the noises, damage of front side belt and damage of crank pulley.

NOTE:

The rear belt does not require tension adjustment because it is a stretch-type belt.

1. PROCEDURE NOT USING BELT A TENSION GAUGE

1. Replace the belts if cracks, fraying or wear are found.

2. Check the V-belt tension and adjust it if necessary by adjusting the generator installing position.

2. PROCEDURE WITH BELT TENSION GAUGE

1. Replace the belts if cracks, fraying or wear are found.

2. Remove the V-belt cover and radiator reservoir tank.

3. Check the tension of the V-belt using the belt tension gauge. Adjust the tension if necessary by adjusting the installation position of the generator.
